Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

  • Finders, please post pix of the resqued cookies so we can see how well they are doing. Are they ready for adoption yet?

As far as marinade of choice......BOSS Brine of course!

OK - spill the beans about the latest Harry Potter....who died? Is it true Harry will die in the next one? She said she's left plenty of clues in this book's last last chapter about the final book.

    • *smacks self in forehead* Of course!! How could I have forgotten BOSS Brine! I think I'll throw in a beet pulp salad as well, and maybe some flax seed cookies.

As far as Harry Potter: I don't want to spoil the book for anyone here reading it, but I'd be happy to PT you with the details. Let me know how much you want to know!

      • Well there are no FSC's ready for adoption just yet. We lost a few more, but the majority thrived on the BOSS support.

Have any of you Canadians seen my fillygelding? Her radio transmitter must have come loose, I lost contact with her about an hour ago as she crossed the border. Should I call the vet?

O and guys, I've decided to go the homeopathic route from now on. BOSS is organic, isn't it???

                • Hey Guys! I went to a BBQ this weekend where the main course was a mare who had outlived her otherwise usefullness. Now, this mare wasn't actually a resque so what do I say I had at the BBQ?

Finderkeepers: How's my mare doing? Can she do the TN Walking Horse walk yet? Need to hurry on that as, over the weekend, I was invited to go riding with some folks with walking horses and we need to be able to keep up. Especially since part of the ride is along the roadway and all are bringing some brewskies with them. (Unfortunately, that isn't made up. I think I'd need something stronger than beer to do that!)

                    • As far as roping the tripods, why of course I will be roping their most useful part(s)

As far as taking resque to the potluck--put it in a crock pot--everyone knows you can put anything in a crock pot and it will come out tasty goodness--use Parkay and paprika--DUH!

PLEASE DO NOT SAY A WORD ABOUT THE HARRY POTTER BOOK!!!!!!! I am halfway through it and have to say it is a bit dark and was surprised that the characters are saying "damn"--I start my new job tomorrow and wonder if they will mind if I read Harry all day? As much as I would loff to lay in bed and read it all day I have to get a ton of crap done-including search for Jen22's BD present--what on earth do you get a girl that has everything (I might rescue a flax seed cookie in her name or give her some pre made frozen smegma coolers)

Plus the reunion is in KY, so I can pick up some fresh rescue right off the track!

                            • Finders, your fillygelding is doing fine my baby who you sent out west with a BNT. I hear the trailer did break down but the fillygelding was such a trooper they just threw it in the trunk of a car and poked holes so it could breath. I think the stuffy air is doing wonders for all the cuts from the duck/goat/barbed wire incident. Still not sure if I am going to commit to buying it yet. I know it is perfect and over priced and what more could I want, right? Well I just have to check with a few more tripods to see which one should be paying. I'm still using the black mailed credit card for the deposit though.
But now I need some advice on breeding fillygeldings! How do you ensure a fillygelding, isn't there some string test or something?? BOSS? I want to make sure it is a fillygelding as that market is really hot right now!
I'm in for a rodeo! I know nothing about them so it will be tons of fun. I will have to find a bronc to buck me sky high (oh wait, I know some of them already). Nothing like a good resque while waiting for your event!

                                • Oh Holly Jeanne, feel free to crash! The only thing more boring than your own high school reunion is your spouse's. It's in Paducah: the 10th anniversary of the St. Mary's High School class of 1995.

If I give you directions, will you bring the tripods? Or perhaps your racking horse?

I'll be taking a fine dish of crock-potted resque marinated in BOSS, Parkay and paprika, with a beet pulp salad.

                                  • Hmmm, Paducah is a little far away for me to crash. If you need flax to add to the dish, I have plenty! Next time, I'll bring my racking horse. I'm sure finderskeepers will have taught her to rack by then.

                                    • I hate to break it to you Snap, but as of now, fillygeldings only happen by accident. i have had success in breeding a few...the trick is to keep all your 1-3 year olds turned out together, and when a brother and sister or mother and son or father and daughter find their way to each other, the result is a fillygelding. I just keep all my horses out together all the time, and I've had 4 fillygeldings this year. Your fillygelding is already in foal, which makes your job even easier. She is one of the first fillygeldings to be in foal, so we will have to see what happens. Please send us baby pictures when she gets around to having the damn thing

I heard a rumor that BOSS mixed with paprika and garlic induces labor. Maybe give that a go. I hope you have a penguin midwife ready for her...the birth is sure to be interesting!

OOOO and I got a new group of rescues in yesterday. They are in pretty good shape already...anyone up for a resque this weekend? we can have a bonfire after the rodeo!

                                      • Finders....on the sport horse breeding forum there is a thread that says fillygeldings are self pollinating. Is that true? I wondered cause it is posted as the truth and everything that's posted is always true you know. So, who is correct? Could you both be correct? Should I call the vet? Who would know? Will Bag Balm help anything? Paprika -- is that Indian or Hungarian Paprika?

I added some radish to my smegma bean dip this weekend and it really added a subtle hot flavor that was very unique. That coupled with the apple cider vinegar beet pulp sandwich spread was a real delight.

Lordy it's hot in NC! Too hot to do much of anything. I'm sick and tired of this heat already. You'd think it was summer or something. What can we do about the heat and humidity? All these people posting wanting to know what it's like in NC and we all keep telling them it's hot as heck and they still keep coming and then complaining that it's too hot to do anything. Like, Yeah, we told ya!

I would be proud and honored to put on the tripod rodeo here in MI. The heat index today is 110, so the BBQ would be easy
