Stable Manager- Goucher College

Goucher College seeks a stable manager for its nationally ranked on-campus equestrian program. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a small, close-knit staff, which works directly with Goucher’s 27 beloved school and performance horses.

The stable manager works with the equine manager to oversee the equestrian facility and horses. The successful candidate will insure that the horses are maintained in peak condition and that the stables and facility meet the industry standard plus all requirements for state and county licensing. The stable manager works directly with all stable vendors, including vet, farrier and feed distributors. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: performing the daily stable routine, overseeing facility maintenance, tending to equine emergencies, supervising part-time staff and student workers, assisting equine manager with veterinary maintenance, and contributing to all related equestrian events and competitions. Teaching opportunities may be possible for the right candidate. Other duties of the position include, but are not limited to: stall cleaning, feeding, administering medications and treatments, and other stable chores. Successful candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. The stable manager position includes on campus housing and utilities.

Qualified applicants will possess a high school diploma or equivalency (bachelor’s degree, preferred); and at least five years of experience in two of the following areas: stable management, horse care, riding, and teaching. The incumbent must also be professional, reliable, highly motivated, and organized. The ideal candidate will have previous experience operating and/or maintaining tractors or ATVs. Experience and/or willing to learn to drive stable trailer is preferred. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and will be subject to a background check as a condition of employment.
