Senior Stable Assistant (Part time Mon-Fri)

Goucher College seeks a senior stable assistant for its nationally ranked on-campus equestrian program. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a small, close-knit staff, which works directly with Goucher’s 27 beloved school and performance horses.

Reporting to the equine manager, the senior stable assistant will assist with the weekday afternoon operations of the stables and surrounding facilities. The senior stable assistant will act as the “barn manager” for the afternoon: duties include but are not limited to feeding, turnout, supervising student workers, supervising free rides, maintaining arenas, organizing the barn for the evening, and other related stable chores. Successful candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis; and able and willing to operate an ATV and tractor in order to complete the aforementioned job duties.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or equivalency; basic knowledge of horse care and handling and at least two years of experience working with horses preferably hunt seat equitation. The incumbent must also be reliable; highly motivated; and organized. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work Monday through Friday afternoons from 1-6:00 PM. The ideal candidate will have previous experience operating and/or maintaining tractors or ATVs. Preference will be given to candidates who are also able and willing to cover occasional other shifts, including weekends, if needed.
