The Department of Equine Studies at Emory & Henry College invites applications for the position of Assistant Clinical Faculty (Assistant Professor or Instructor, depending on qualifications) of Equine Studies. The start date is July 1, 2023. The Department is part of an historic liberal arts college in Emory, Virginia, USA, on a rural campus in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains. Committed to excellence in teaching and mentored undergraduate research, the Department of Equine Studies is one of the college’s most vibrant and successful programs. It is one of only approximately a dozen schools offering a degree in Equine Studies. The program boasts 22 National Championships in the associations with which the riding teams compete including the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, the Intercollegiate Dressage Association, and the National Tournament of Champions. Plans are underway for a new state-of-the-art equestrian facility on the Emory campus within the near future.

Responsibilities for this position include:
* Assisting the equine studies faculty team in activities such as teaching, advising, program assessment and curriculum development as well as other potential departmental needs.
* Demonstrated ability to teach departmental courses such as Fundamentals of Riding (all levels) primary hunter seat equitation, and a specialized area of riding to the applicant strengths are needed to complement existing expertise in the department.
* Assisting with coaching the competitive riding teams.
* Assisting with all hosted horse shows within the Department including collegiate competition with the IHSA and IDA as well as community horse show fundraisers.

Qualifications include:
* Master’s degree in related field (Bachelor’s degree with extensive discipline related experience will be considered)
* College level teaching and/or discipline-related field experience are expected by contract start date.
* Candidates must have a background in either hunter seat, jumpers, dressage or eventing.
