Strafford Saddlery is a locally-owned, independent tack shop in the heart of Vermont. Started twenty-plus years ago in the small, but equestrian-rich community of Strafford, we have recently moved to a beautiful, large post-and-beam building in Quechee, Vermont. Based on our growth, we are looking to add to our team.

As general manager you will lead the organization in the next phase of development; embody the spirit of a community-inspired tack shop, with our passion for horses and thoughtful gear and apparel; lead a talented and committed team in retail and develop our e-commerce business, with focus on men’s riding apparel. Manager must have experience running a retail business, equestrian experience to understand the market, and knowledge of the tack industry.

Duties include:
• Participate in development of the organization’s vision, policies and short- and long-term objectives, setting sales goals and incentives, meet the goals and work to increase sales
• Develop, implement, and monitor operating budgets for expenses and purchasing, and create and prepare financial reports; recommend cost-effective and efficient solutions
• Maintain knowledge of industry trends and product developments
• Serve as liaison between Partners, consultants, outside team leaders, vendors
• Provide leadership, staff mentoring, and set the tone and goals for sales team and customer experience
• Maintain relationships with vendors, and excellence of team training
• Accounting experience, knowledge of Quickbooks and payroll and taxes, and lead improvements to design of point of sale and commerce software
• Lead Marketing plan: set directives, oversee website content, social postings, eblast marketing that comprise sales campaigns, including event sponsorships and in-store calendar of events
• Develop customers into repeat shoppers through excellent customer service, special events and product information and timely communication, and efficient fulfillment service
• Increase e-commerce sales
• Ability to work weekends, nights, and holidays and organize flex-scheduling for staff
