Brannigan And Davidson Share The Lead In Richland Park CIC***

Aug. 27, Richland, Mich.

Jennie Brannigan and Buck Davidson both came to the Richland Park CIC*** with a bit of an axe to grind. Brannigan needed confirmation that the work she’d done with Cambalda since they were eliminated in their four-star debut in June had really bolstered the gelding’s confidence.

Five Minutes With Bruce “The Bird Man” Davidson

When Amy Dragoo, one of our most reliable freelance photographers, sent in her selections for our Behind Barn Doors at Bruce Davidson’s Chesterland (see Aug. 8 Eventing Issue, p. 24), we weren’t surprised by most of what we saw.

There were the rolling, green hills of Chester County, Pa. There were the classic red-and-white Dutch doors on his barn, the old black-and-white photos of famous mounts from decades gone by hanging in his office. There were all the horses and dogs and chickens and peacocks and parrots we’d expected...

Cornelissen's Smile Shines Bright Atop The Reem Acra FEI World Cup Podium

Given that she’d won all five of her qualifiers for the Reem Acra FEI Dressage World Cup Final, everyone in the sold-out stands in Leipzig, Germany, on freestyle night fully expected Adelinde Cornelissen to stand atop the podium at the end of the evening.

She’d won the Grand Prix test already with 80.95 percent, and her mount Jerich Parzival’s two biggest rivals, Moorlands Totilas and Mistral Hojris, weren’t in attendance. This year’s Final, held April 28-30, was hers for the taking.

Leipzig, Germany—April 29

There’s still quite a bit of red, yellow and black at the top of the leaderboard after two rounds of Rolex FEI Show Jumping World Cup action, but today’s individual winners ride under Canada’s crimson and white.

Last Call Makes The Final Round A Winning One At Galway Downs

Alexandra Slusher has crossed the Temecula city limits, put on her blinker, turned her wheel to the right and headed down Los Corralitos Road so many thousands of times that she could do it in her sleep.

You’d think that by now the road to Galway Downs at the Southern California Equestrian Center would have lost any hint of the magic it held for her as a teen-ager competing there for the first time. By her early 20s, Slusher was driving it multiple times per day as a full-time assistant for Hawley Bennett-Awad directly across the road at KingsWay Farm.

Slusher Steps Up At Galway Downs

Temecula, Calif., April 2

Alexandra Slusher knew she was pretty tight on the time when she crossed the finish line aboard Last Call, but when she looked at the CIC*** scoreboard afterward and saw 2 time penalties by her name, which dropped her out of the winning position, she knew it had to have been a mistake.

Last Call Stands First At Galway Downs

Temecula, Calif., April 1

Alexandra Slusher’s been competing her mare Last Call for years, but today she didn’t quite feel like she knew the horse she had on her hands.

Slusher and “Fergie,” her 12-year-old Mecklenburg mare topped the dressage phase at the Galway Downs CIC*** this morning (43.0), and despite the one rail they pulled in show jumping this afternoon, they remain at the top of the leaderboard heading into cross-country tomorrow.

Eventing Accidents Mar Weekend Competitions

Even a quick glance at the results from Poplar Place Farm March and Southern Pines II Horse Trials from this weekend, March 25-27, could send eyebrows skyward—the numbers of cross-country eliminations and retirements alone in Hamilton, Ga., and Raeford, N.C., respectively, were shocking.
