2016 Derby Finals

Chronicle reporters Kimberly Loushin and Ann Glavan are on site in Kentucky to bring you all the news for the year's biggest derby.

Lexington, Ky.—Aug. 19   It’s a word Larry Glefke doesn’t use often, but it aptly described Kelley Farmer’s round aboard Baltimore in the opening round of the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship. “Flawless,” Glefke said, shaking his head. “I never say this—I usually have a lot to say when she comes out of the ring, but that was flawless.”
Being sidelined for an injury and unable to ride for months may have thrown other riders for a loop before a big championship, but not Scott Stewart.

Course designer Bobby Murphy is bringing some flair to this year's course.
When? The first round kicks off with the opening ceremonies at 8 a.m. EST on Friday, Aug. 14 with the first horse on course at 8:15 a.m. There will be a challenge round for those who didn't make it to the handy round on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 3:00 p.m. A mimimum of 20 horses will qualify for the handy which starts with opening ceremonies at 6:00 p.m.Where? The USHJA International Hunter Derby Championships will take place at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky.
