Pre-show routine: “I don’t really have one specific routine that I go through before showing but I always try to take a minute to just stop everything I’m doing and focus on what I will be trying to accomplish in the show ring. I do a lot of the barn work as well so at some point I have to make myself stop and switch from work mode to riding mode. When I step into the ring I always try to take one deep breath in and let it all out to relax and refocus myself.”
Good luck charm: “I actually don’t have a good luck charm. I used to think that one of my belts was really lucky but I think I used up all of that luck!”
Most embarrassing moment: “My most embarrassing moment would have to be when I was riding my small paint pony at the Santa Barbara National Horse Show. I was showing in a low pony jumper class and it had rained. There was one huge mud puddle in the ring. What else would my devilish little pony do but stop and dump me right into that one big puddle? I remember taking my walk of shame back to the in-gate completely covered in mud.”
Fun Fact: “My nickname at North Run has permanently become Poodle. Missy started calling me that when I came to ride with her in Florida a few years ago and it has stuck with everyone at the barn!”
Hardest Lesson: “I think my hardest lesson was probably the lesson I had with Missy last year to prepare for the USET finals. She always sets one killer course to get us ready for the gymnastics phase as well as to prepare us to jump the open water. I remember having to ride very actively and very accurately in that lesson.”
