The organizers of the Dressage Foundation Advanced Young Rider Olympic Dream Program need applicants for a 10-day European tour this summer.

This program, originated by Michael Poulin and now in its sixth year, will offer four young riders the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to enhance their understanding of dressage theory by learning from top European coaches, including Klaus Balkenhol, Ingrid Klimke, Jean Bemelmans and Hubertus Schmidt.  Participants will then travel to watch the European Young Rider Champions in Stadl Paura, Austria, where they’ll meet with Arthur Kottas, former chief rider of the Spanish Riding School.

The tour is tentatively scheduled for July 14-24.

Young riders (16-21) competing at fourth level can apply, but 22-year-old graduates of the 2005 advanced young rider program are also eligible.  A selection committee will choose candidates based on merit, skill, and commitment to the sport, as demonstrated by the written applications, essays and recommendations they submit.

During their travels, the young riders will record their observations in daily journals to share with their home dressage organizations when they return.  Sharon Poulin of Florida and Sarah Martin of Colorado will chaperone the trip.

For more information, go to The Dressage Foundation’s website (www.dressagefoundation.org) or call The Dressage Foundation’s president, John F. Boomer (860-228-9242).
