World Equestrian Games Adds Para-Equestrian To The Lineup in 2010

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today, April 27, that Para-Equestrian would be added as the eighth discipline at the FEI Games World Championships in 2010 in Lexington, Ky.

“For the first time two para-equestrian events will take place simultaneously with the FEI Games,” said Fletcher.  “This will make the first World Equestrian Games outside of Europe even more special.”
   
The two para-equestrian events are dressage and combined driving.

“We as the Equestrian Federation have supported paralympic sport,” said USEF president David O’Connor.  “The extra dedication and determination it takes to become a champion in their sport is unbelievable.”
   
The first dressage para-equestrian World Championship was held in Sweden in 1987, and the first Paralympic Games were held in Atlanta in conjunction with the Olympics in 1996.
