Are you a horse lover between the ages of 10 and 18 with a passion for writing? Look no further. The Wild Beauty Foundation is hosting a writing contest with a theme of wild horses, and its founders are asking young authors for well-researched short stories on the topic.

“The creative possibilities are endless,” reads the contest’s rules. “Your story could be in first person like Anna Sewell’s ‘Black Beauty,’ or it could be third person. You could write about encountering a wild horse out on the range yourself or focus on wild horse families.”

The stories will be judged by a panel that includes Hollywood actors Mackenzie Foy, Iain Glen, Calam Lynch, Fern Deacon, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Claire Forlani, Sascha Nastasi, Max Raphael and Beth Behrs.

A grand prize will be awarded to one middle-school (ages 10-14) and one high-school grade (ages 15-18) author. Top-five finalists in each category also will be named. All winners will have their stories read aloud by one of the celebrity judges and then posted to WBF social media, in addition to receiving other prizes.

All entries must be submitted by July 30, and winners will be announced Aug. 15.

The Wild Beauty Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by filmmakers Ashley Avis and Edward Winters, writers and directors of the 2020 Disney film “Black Beauty,” which was based on Anna Sewell’s novel. The mission of the foundation is to bring awareness to key issues horses, wild and domestic, face.
