It’s USHJA championship week at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington with both the Platinum Performance USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships and the Platinum Performance USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship taking center stage.

The week kicks off with the green incentive, where we’ll get a look at the sport’s rising stars. Many of the top horses now showing in the junior and amateur-owner rings all the way up through the derby championship once competed in the green incentive.

There will once again be two championships: one for the 3′ and 3’3″ heights and a separate one for those competing in the 3’6″ and 3’9″ green hunters. The competition starts today, Aug. 17, and concludes Thursday, Aug. 19.

Here’s what you need to know:

The Format: The two championships have different formats. There will be three rounds for horses competing at 3′ or 3’3″. All horses will compete in the first two rounds and will receive a numerical score for those rounds. The 30 horses with the highest combined total from those two rounds (including any ties for 30th) will move on to the third round, where they will start with a clean slate.
