WEG Endurance Short List Named

The U.S. Equestrian Federation announced the endurance team short list for the FEI World Equestrian Games. Twelve horse and rider combinations and six ranked alternates were selected to continue training for the traveling team that will represent the United States in Aachen, Germany. The endurance competition will be held on Aug. 21, the first competition of the Games.

The U.S. Equestrian Federation announced the endurance team short list for the FEI World Equestrian Games. Twelve horse and rider combinations and six ranked alternates were selected to continue training for the traveling team that will represent the United States in Aachen, Germany. The top 12 horse and rider combinations are listed alphabetically:  Betty Baker, Honey Brook, Pa., riding Synematic; Julie Bullock, Grottos, Va., riding Iron Wyll; Kathryn Downs, Somerville, Maine, riding Pygmalion; Joseph Mattingley, Scales Mound, Ill., riding SA Laribou; Jennifer Niehaus, Cloverdale, Calif., riding Cheyenne XII; Stephen Rojek, South Woodstock, Vt., riding Finch; Christoph Schork, Moab, Utah, and Taj Rai Hasan; Margaret Sleeper, Frenchtown, N.J., riding Shyrocco Troilus; Joyce Sousa, Hydesville, Calif., riding LV Integrity; Susan Summers, Gifford, Wash., riding Mags Motivator; Barry Waitte, Los Gatos, Calif., riding LV Cambridge; Susan White-Hedgecock, Park City, Utah, riding AA Montego.
The six ranked alternates are:  1. Heather Stevens, Ashland, Mont., riding RSA Count LaQuen; 
2. Valerie Kanavy, Ft. Valley, Va., riding Bahia Gold; 3. Dennis Summers, Gifford, Wash., riding SHA Ebony Rose; 4. Sandra Connor, Conowingo, Md., riding Elegant Pride; 5. Candy Barbo, Duluth, Minn., riding CR Windsor; 6. Sara Hunt-Engsberg, Fairburn, Ga., riding Koweta Vanna Kaye.

A committee that observed the horses and riders at various events during the past two years created this list through an extensive selection process.  The final six horses and five riders will be selected at the completion of two training events that take place in early July.
