Beezie Madden wasn’t originally intending to ride Breitling LS in the $205,000 CSIO**** Grand Prix on March 4, but after the Dutch Warmblood only jumped one round in the $150,000 FEI Nations Cup the previous night, she elected to swap the experienced stallion in over her greener mount Con Taggio.

That decision paid off when they topped an 11-horse jump-off ahead of Richie Moloney on Carrabis Z and Adrienne Sternlicht on Cristalline.

“I had Richie and Denis [Lynch] behind me, so I needed to go as fast as I was comfortable with him,” said Madden. “He’s actually become such a fun horse in the jump-offs because he has gotten quite fast. He’s careful, and I feel like every time that I’m in a jump-off, I have a really good chance. I put a nice slice on [fence] 1. I think I was quite fast to fence 2, fast to fence 3. I slipped a little bit in that turn [to the double combination]. I thought maybe somebody could get me there. Then again the last turn was really good as well; I think I was pretty tight there.”
