As part of its coverage of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 7, ESPN will broadcast the 80th running of the Virginia Gold Cup timber race at Great Meadow in The Plains, Va.
The Virginia Gold Cup is supposed to air sometime between 3 and 5 p.m. EDT.

Race meet organizers and network representatives have been negotiating this plan for a couple of years. To facilitate the broadcast, local television stations News Channel 8 and Washington ABC affiliate WJLA will relay the race coverage from their satellite truck to the ESPN staff at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.
