U. S. Equestrian Federation officials have named 16 up-and-coming riders to the 2009 Developing Rider List for Eventing.
 
The following riders and horses have been named to the list:
 
•    Madeline Blackman, 18, of Ringoes, N.J., with Gordonstown, owned by the rider
•    Jennie Brannigan, 21, of San Diego, Calif., with Cooper, owned by the rider
•    Tiana Coudray, 21, of Ojai, Calif., with Ringwood Magister, owned by the rider and Jatial Inc.
•    Sinead Halpin, 28, of Irmo, S.C., with Manior de Carneville, owned by Carraig LLC
•    Alexis Helffrich, 27, of Pleasonton, Calif., with Leyasta, owned by Sarah Vernlund
•    Callie Judy, 16, of Columbia, Mo., with Call On Me, owned by The Heartland GK
•    Megan Lanzarone, 25, of Georgetown, Ky., with Widespread Panic, owned by the rider
•    Lauren Kieffer, 21, of Middleburg, Va., with Snooze Alarm, owned by Jo Kieffer

U.S. Chef d’Equipe and Technical Advisor for Eventing, Captain Mark Phillips, will coach the Developing Riders in 2009. The athletes will be invited to participate in training sessions, which he will be use to identify the most promising riders of the group. Following the training sessions, this limited group will continue to receive assistance from Phillips.
 
New selection criteria was used for the 2009 Developing Rider List. This year ‘Talent Spotters’ (Derek di Grazia, Phillip Dutton, Becky Holder, Mike Huber, Kerry Millikin, Karen O’Connor, Mark Phillips, Kim Severson and Amy Tryon) reviewed 47 applications and nominations for the Developing Rider program.
 
Athletes could either submit an application, or they were nominated through the talent spotter program created this fall by the USEF Eventing High Performance Committee.
