The U.S. Equestrian Federation has announced the athlete-and-horse combinations selected to represent the Defender U.S. Eventing Team at CHIO Aachen in the FEI Eventing Nations Cup CCIO4*-S hosted in Aachen, Germany, July 2-5. The team will be led by Chef d’Equipe Leslie Law and Team Leader Christina Vaughn.Â
The following combinations have been selected to represent the Defender U.S. Eventing Team and are listed in alphabetical order:
- Will Coleman (Ocala, Florida) and Off The Record, a 16-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (VDL Arkansas—Drumagoland Bay ARD Ohio) owned by the Off The Record Syndicate and cared for by Erin Jarboe
- Phillip Dutton (West Grove, Pennsylvania) and Possante, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Namelus R—Wendelien, Otangelo) owned by The Possante Group and cared for by Erin Deyo
- Direct Reserve: Denim, a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding (Dinken—Celia II, Ibisco), owned by Caroline Moran, Ann Jones, Ann Lapides and Neill Sites
- Boyd Martin (Cochranville, Pennsylvania) and Commando 3, a 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding (Connor 48—R-Adelgunde, Amigo) owned by Yankee Creek Ranch LLC and cared for by Stephanie Simpson
- Caroline Pamukcu (Springtown, Pennsylvania) and HSH Blake, a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Tolan R—Doughiska Lass, Kannan) owned by the rider, Deniz Pamukcu, Sherrie Martin and Mollie Hoff and cared for by Chloe Tehan
The following combination has been selected to represent the U.S. as an individual combination at CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival:
- James Alliston (San Ramon, California) and Karma, an 11-year-old Oldenburg mare (Escudo II—Travita, Lavita) owned by Alliston Equestrian and Ric Plummer, and cared for by Sophie Tice

- Jenny Caras (Buckhead, Georgia) and Sommersby, a 13-year-old Mecklenburg (Sergeant Pepper—D’Mademoiselle, D’Olympic) gelding, owned by the rider and Jerry Hollis
- Buck Davidson (Unionville, Pennsylvania) and Cooley Candyman, a 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Sligo Candy Boy—Dashing Hill, Flame Hill) owned by the rider and Cassandra Segal
- Boyd Martin and Cooley Nutcracker, an 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Tolan R—Ballyshan Cleopatra, Cobra) owned by The Nutcracker Syndicate
- Cassie Sanger (Wilmington, Delaware) and Redfield Fyre, her own 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Canabis Z—Tiona, Guidam)
CHIO Aachen is one of the most prestigious multi-discipline equestrian events in the world, hosted annually in Aachen. The CCIO4*-S will begin with dressage on the morning of Friday, July 4, at 8:30 a.m. GMT+2, followed by show jumping later in the afternoon in the main stadium at 5:00 p.m. GMT+2. Cross-country will start at 9:55 a.m. GMT+2 on Saturday, July 5, determining final team standings.
