Update:  The deadline for the Nov. 21-22 clinic with Pam Goodrich in Boscawen, N.H. and the Nov. 21-22 clinic with Lendon Gray in Newtown, Pa. has been extended to Nov. 11.

The application deadline for December and January clinics has been extended to November 20, 2009.

U.S. Equestrian Federation officials launched the Dressage Youth/Pony Pilot Program on Oct. 23. The purpose of the new program, directed by two-time Olympian Lendon Gray, is to identify, educate and develop young riders.

“I’m thrilled that USEF is going to help to develop the best equitation and riding skills in our younger riders,” Gray said. “It’s so much easier to develop correct riding from the early ages than to try to change bad habits later.”

Gray, along with well-known dressage trainers Michael Barisone, Pam Goodrich, Arlene “Tuny” Page and David Wightman, will hold clinics for young riders throughout the United States beginning this fall.

“The clinics will include emphasis on position and seat, technical skills, and riding and stable management theory,” Gray said.

The clinics are open to riders 20 years old and younger with an emphasis on riders ages 10 to 17. Riders must have earned a 62 percent from two different judges in their respective level and age group to be eligible. Age groups and levels are as follows: 10-15, first level or above; 16-17, third level or above; 18-20, fourth level and above.

The USEF will accept applications until Nov. 11 for December clinics. Riders and instructors may audit clinics for a fee. Clinic dates and locations for fall 2009 and January 2010 are:
