U.S. Selectors Choose Pan Am Eventing Squad

The U.S. Equestrian Federation Executive Committee members announced on June 11 that the following six combinations have been named to the eventing team, which will represent the United States at the 2007 Pan American Games, July 13-29, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The U.S. Equestrian Federation Executive Committee members announced on June 11 that the following six combinations have been named to the eventing team, which will represent the United States at the 2007 Pan American Games, July 13-29, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
 
The following riders were selected:

  • Stephen Bradley of Leesburg, Va., on From, owned by Charlotte Harris
  • Mara Dean of Round Hill, Va., on Nicki Henley, owned by Willow Bend Farm, LLC
  • Phillip Dutton of West Grove, Pa., on Connaught, owned by Bruce Duchossois
  • Gina Miles of Creston, Calif., on McKinlaigh, owned by Thomas Schulz and Laura Coats
  • Bonnie Mosser of Unionville, Pa., on Merloch, owned by the rider
  • Karen O’Connor of The Plains, Va., on Theodore O’Connor, owned by The Theodore O’Connor Syndicate

Four of these combinations will be named to the team before the first horse inspection, and the other two will represent the United States as individuals.  This will be Bonnie Mosser’s first opportunity to represent her country, and Phillip Dutton’s first official chance to ride for the United States in an international championship.
 
Six more riders have been named as alternates.  These include:  Kristin Bachman/Gryffindor; Darren Chiacchia/Better I Do It; Dutton/Truluck; Will Faudree/Antigua; Mosser/Close The Deal; and O’Connor/Allstar.
 
The horses and riders will train at Stonehall Farm in The Plains, Va., beginning June 24 and enter quarantine in Ocala, Fla., on July 1. The six horses that will ship to Brazil will leave from Miami, Fla., on July 11.
