U.S. Riders Finish In The Middle Of The Pack At Eventing World Cup Final

Clayton Fredericks proved unbeatable at the HSBC FEI World Cup Eventing Final, held Sept. 17-21 in Deauville, France.  The 2007 Rolex Kentucky CCI**** winners survived a rough moment at one water jump—where Fredericks ended up around Ben Along Time’s ears—to cruise to pick up just 4.8 time penalties on their cross-country round and maintain their lead.  A rail down in show jumping didn’t affect their lead either, and they led the victory gallop.

Fredericks’ wife, Lucinda, wasn’t so lucky and fell off Headley Britannia on cross-country after having been second after dressage.

American Allison Springer and Arthur, tied for third after dressage, had a run-out late in the course after Arthur lost a front shoe, dropping them down the standings.  Even with the run-out, time faults and four rails in show jumping, Springer finished in 20th.

Stephen Bradley and Brandenburg’s Joshua jumped clean but collected 12.4 time penalties on cross-country, then had just one time fault in show jumping to finish in 18th.

Clark Montgomery had a fall off Up Spirit late on the cross-country course, eliminating them.
