Irish rider Patricia Ryan’s horse Fernhill Clover Mist, who was eliminated by officials after bolting uncontrollably during cross-country at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games yesterday, Oct. 2, sustained a major hock injury according William Micklem.

“The tendon running over his hock had slipped off and was obviously the reason behind his pain and his flight across the horse park,” said Micklem, a renowned Irish breeder who is part of that country’s contingent here. “It is the same injury that finished Biko’s career at the end of the Burghley [CCI**** (England)] cross-country with victory in sight for him and Karen O’Connor, and it will finish Clover Mist’s career.”

Ryan and Fernhill Clover Mist were having a clear round until the horse bolted suddenly at fence 20, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace corner.
