Beezie Madden and McLain Ward, two members of the 2004 Olympic team, are among the five riders chosen for the third U.S. team being sent to Europe to contest the Samsung Super League Nations Cup events. Madden and Ward will each ride their Olympic horses, Authentic and Sapphire.
U.S. Equestrian Federation officials announced the new team late this afternoon (June 29).
Joining them will be Kim Frey on Marlou, the best-placed U.S. pair (fifth) at the Budweiser FEI World Cup Final in April; Laura Kraut and Miss Independent, stalwarts of the season\’s victorious first Super League team; and Jeffery Welles on Armani, a pair that finished second in the $200,000 Budweiser American Invitational in April and second in the Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Championships in June.

The group will contest Hickstead (England) on July 28-31; Dublin (Ireland) on Aug. 3-7, and Aachen (Germany) on Aug. 23-28.
After four Super League events, the U.S. team stands second, with 21.5 points. Switzerland (22 points) is leading, with Germany (21 points) in third, Great Britain (20.5) fourth, and France (20) fifth.
