Sally Ike, the U.S. Equestrian Federation’s director of show jumping has been scrambling to send the full compliment of seven riders from the USA East Coast League to the FEI World Cup Final in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in two weeks.
This year’s final comes amid a particularly busy schedule, as the top riders aimed their horses for last month’s World Equestrian Games Selection Trials, and from that 10 horses were picked to contest the first five FEI Samsung Super League Nations Cups in May and July in preparation for the WEG.
Finally, injuries took their toll.

Jimmy Torano, who finished 11th in the league standings, had agreed to go as the seventh rider, but his horse, Marlo, became ill. And Kim Prince, the reserve rider who finished in 12th, declined to go because she has a broken forearm. No other qualified rider is ready to take a trip to Kuala Lumpur.
