The year was 1976, and the world’s best gathered in Montreal, Canada for the Olympic Games.
The show jumpers tackled the individual competition at Bromont, where Germany’s Alwin Schockemöhle won gold aboard Warwick Rex. Canada’s Michel Vaillancourt took the silver on Branch County, and Belgium’s Francois Mathy claimed bronze on Gai Luron.
For the team competition, the horses and riders shipped to the main Olympic Stadium in Montreal. The French team claimed gold over the Germans and the Belgians. The U.S. team that year was
