The Mars Maryland 5-Star at Fair Hill has released entries for this year’s third edition, set to kick off Oct. 19 in Elkton, Maryland. A CCI3*-L and the USEA Young Event Horse East Coast Championships will be held alongside the five-star event.
In the five-star, the 28 entries represent four countries—the United States, Great Britain, New Zealand and Ireland—and the list is jam-packed with talent.
As of Sept. 25, the entry list has gained one pair: Cornelia Fletcher and Daytona Beach 8, which brings the total to 29 combinations.
There are eight Olympians riding at Maryland: Phillip Dutton (Azure), William Fox-Pitt (Grafennacht), Boyd Martin (Contessa and Luke 140), Austin O’Connor (Colorado Blue), Doug Payne (Quantum Leap), Caroline Powell (Greenacres Special Cavalier), Tim Price (Falco) and Oliver Townend (Cooley Rosalent). Six previous five-star winners are in the field, including inaugural Maryland 5 Star winner Martin, last year’s winner Price, this year’s Burghley winner Townend, as well as Dutton, Fox-Pitt and Powell. Martin is the only rider with multiple entries.

On the other end of the spectrum there are five five-star first timers looking to prove themselves: Arielle Aharoni (Dutch Times), Mia Farley (Phelps), Jacob Fletcher (Fabian), Sarah Kuhn (Mr. Cash Van De Start) and Andrew McConnon (Ferrie’s Cello).
Kiwi rider Monica Spencer (Artist) will have traveled the farthest to get to Maryland; she’s based in New Zealand.
