Stony Hill Stables, owned and operated by the Hotchkiss family for more than five decades, is pleased to announce the success of the Stony Hill Stables Foundation, a not-for-profit organization with the express purpose of promoting equine sports through riding education and competitive opportunities for children and young adults in the local East End community.  Stony Hill Stables is the only stable in Long Island to offer this unique program. Launched in the summer of 2012, the success of the foundation is already evident by mounting ribbons.  Hard-working scholarship recipients, who trained last summer, have already won ribbons in some very prestigious horse shows, including the Sagaponack Horse Show, The Hampton Classic and most recently at the famed Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), held annually in Wellington, FL.

To an outsider, the equestrian world may seem inaccessible to all but a few. Stony Hill Stables wants to break this stereotype by offering local East End children and young adults the access to professional equine training and the opportunity to compete.

The inspiration for the Stony Hill Stables Foundation came from Wick Hotchkiss, second-generation owner of Stony Hill Stables and recent USDF Gold medalist.  “As both an active member in the equestrian world and local Amagansett resident, it has been my life-long dream to make the equestrian experience more accessible in our community.  I understand that seriously pursuing equine sport can be expensive.  It is important to me that local children still have the opportunity to ride.

The Stony Hill Stables Foundation was created to give back to the community by providing equine facilities for equestrian programs which hopefully will facilitate the growth of the sport on the East End,” said Hotchkiss.

The foundation’s goal is to create essential opportunities for children and adults to connect with the community, grow physically and emotionally, while benefiting from a life enhancing experience.  Scholarship applications for the 2013 season are currently being accepted and will be awarded in the following training levels:

Beginner’s lessons                                 ages 5 and up
