After seven weeks of sold out shows with more than 80,000 spectators, the directors of Cavalia have decided to lend a helping hand to Haiti. In collaboration with Emilio Estefan and in honor of Nobel Prize recipient, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Cavalia will host a performance on Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. to benefit the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation and the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
“We chose Miami to host this historic event because Florida has the highest number of Haitians and is the center for relief aid to that country, while our hometown of Montreal has one of the highest concentrations of Haitians in the world,” said Normand Latourelle, founder and artistic director of Cavalia. “We are honoring Archbishop Tutu because he has championed peace throughout his entire life, and Cavalia is a show that promotes peace. Coincidentally, this year marks the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s liberation.”

Archbishop Tutu, the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner for his vigorous anti-apartheid activism in his native South Africa, will be in attendance. “Coming out of the Dark,” the Grammy Award winning song written by Emilio and Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada will be performed by The Trinity Church Choir and Joselyn Rivera alongside the cast of two and four-legged stars of Cavalia at the performance.
“The song is a special tribute to the people of Haiti who have undergone incredible hardship over the course of the last few weeks,” said Estefan. “It is our hope that this special Cavalia performance will continue to enlighten people about the needs of Haiti.”
