Sophie Hoffman and her stunning Andalusian Airoso De Les A Kiwi recently showed their metal during a stormy spring dressage show, where the typical afternoon thunderstorms of south Florida threatened to upset their ride.  Hoffman and Airoso rose to the occasion however, putting in lovely rides in the Third Level division and winning themselves the Everglades Dressage Young Rider Achievement Award.

“I’ve had Airoso for about two and a half years,” said Hoffman.  “Saturday’s ride was a little risky for me, as the storm had just rolled in and I got nervous.  But Sunday’s test made up for it, we had a great trip and I am pleased with the improvement.  My family all came out to watch and support us, which is great so I’m glad I was able to end the show on a good note.”  Hoffman added that she plans to continue up the levels with Airoso, and was pleased to win the Everglades Dressage Young Rider Achievement Award and the prize of a saddlepad embroidered with the Everglades Dressage logo.

Bethany Peslar of Everglades Dressage congratulated Hoffman on her performance, and overcoming less than fortunate conditions.  “As riders, we all have to deal with problems that arise at shows, most of which we can’t control.  I think Sophie set an excellent example in the way she didn’t give in, and ended up with a good show experience for herself and her horse.  We are proud to sponsor the Young Rider Achievement Award and believe it is important to recognize outstanding Young Riders as they are the future of our sport.”

Peslar herself found great success in the Young Rider program and was a Team Silver medalist at the North American Young Riders Championships in 1998 and 1999. Peslar now rides and trains out of Everglades Dressage in Wellington, where she helps riders achieve success with a focus on correct seat and effective aids. Peslar’s training method makes her a popular clinician, and she is also strong supporter of equestrian programs in the United States. Peslar is a USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold medalist, was the 2006 Reserve Champion in the National Young Adult Grand Prix Championship “Brentina Cup” at Gladstone, and is a successful USEF High Performance Grand Prix competitor. Peslar’s impressive list of accomplishments also includes earning her USDF Gold Medal in 2003 at age 21.
