Snoop Dogg likely didn’t realize just how excited he would make equestrians three years ago, when sitting behind a desk with Kevin Hart doing some comical commentary for NBC’s Peacock, he enthused over clips from the dressage competition and dubbed the half-pass “crip-walking.”
“The horse crip-walking! You see that? That’s sick! This horse is off the chain!” Snoop said, adding he wanted to get the dressage horse in a video.
The segment caught people’s attention far outside the horse world, and Snoop’s overall knack for commentary earned him a repeat invite from NBC—and a much bigger role as the unofficial mascot and hypeman for Team USA—at this year’s Paris Olympic Games.
Today, the rapper got a chance to watch some of the Grand Prix Special at the Paris Olympics, which decides the team medals, live. And he came dressed for the occasion, donning a shadbelly, complete with a gold “S” pin on the lapel, white pants and a pair of brown half chaps over black sneakers (we’ll forgive him for that fashion faux pas), and a helmet—because, safety first. He came to the event with his celebrity friend and TV collaborator Martha Stewart, who was also adorned in her finest dressage garb, though she did find tall boots. While none of the teams needed a substitute rider to pitch in, the duo were ready should the need arise.
Snoop’s star is hot enough that even the non-American riders heard about his visit to the equestrian venue. While Great Britain’s Carl Hester said he didn’t get a chance to meet the rapper—he was busy helping teammate Becky Moody, whom he trains, and getting ready for his own test—he did hear rumblings about Snoop’s appearance.
“Of course, in the stable everyone’s been saying he’s here, and everyone’s looking for him on the camera,” Hester said. “It’s great that he’s enjoying dressage, and he’s here.”
Ahead of the Games, Snoop Dogg said he wanted to meet the “crip-walking horse” from Tokyo, and while Bella Rose has retired, there was another celebrity dressage horse who would be in Paris. Suppenkasper, ridden by Steffen Peters of the United States, went viral himself in Tokyo after TikTok user @togethxr caught his freestyle on TV and exclaimed, “Alex, come look at this rave horse!” The video reached 9 million-plus views before being removed. However, NBC Olympics joined in on the excitement, posting their own video of Peters and “Mopsie.” (Read about Peters’ reaction to Mopsie’s viral fame in 2021.)
And thus, the quest to unite dressage’s high-profile super fan with Mopsie began.

“Yes, I’m definitely trying to meet him,” Snoop told Time. “Hopefully he’s in the Olympics so I can say, ‘What’s happening?’ to him. Bring him a couple of carrots, some apples or somethin’, know what I’m saying?”
Stewart, a rider herself, previously explained on The Today Show that Snoop had asked her to do the horse segment with him, knowing she’d be more in her element.
“Snoop called me and he said—he’s a little fearful of horses, and he knows I know horses,” she said. Snoop, while not a rider himself, made it clear he would come packing treats and ready to make friends with a few of these oversized crip-walkers.

And thanks to weeks of planning between the U.S. Equestrian Federation and NBC, which included multiple venue visits to hammer out logistics from transportation plans to crowd control—Snoop was going to attract a lot of attention—Snoop got to meet both “Rave Horse” and U.S. team alternate Bohemian, ridden by Endel Ots, as well. While Snoop spent some time watching the competition, his meeting with the equine stars of Team USA took place in one of the longe rings not accessible by the public.
“It was a super fun experience,” Ots said. “Very cool to have people from outside the sport notice and appreciate the horses and what we do as a team. Snoop is the official mascot for Team USA and sharing an experience like that with the team and the horses was really something special and great for the sport.”
While Snoop was in Versailles for the dressage, he also took the time to meet with the newly crowned jumping team silver-medalists McLain Ward, Laura Kraut and Karl Cook.
