Alyssa Phillips and Oskar arrived in Santiago, Chile, as the new traveling reserve combination for the U.S. eventing team at the 2023 Pan American Games. Tamie Smith and Kynan were initially named as the traveling reserves for the squad.
“The change comes after a collective team decision that it was in the best interest of Kynan to stay stateside to finish his fall competition campaign, while giving Phillips the valuable opportunity to experience a championship environment with the program in Santiago,” according to a Tuesday statement from the U.S. Equestrian Federation.
Phillips, Fort Worth, Texas, and Oskar, Julie Phillips’ 14-year-old Holsteiner gelding, serve as reserves for the team of Sydney Elliott and QC Diamantiare, Liz Halliday and Miks Master C, Caroline Pamukcu and HSH Blake and Sharon White and Claus 63. The competition runs Friday through Sunday, Oct. 27-29, at the Escuela de Equitación Regimiento Granderos in Quillota, Chile.
