The beautiful Sleepy Hollow Country Club (SHCC) that was once home to the Vanderbilt Family now features the prestigious Sleepy Hollow Riding Academy (SHRA) in addition to the clubs top tennis, golf and squash programs. Located in prestigious Westchester County, New York, SHRA is adjacent to the Rockefeller Preserve overlooking the historic Hudson River and is just15 miles from Manhattan. The premier hunter/jumper facility includes a 45 stall barn with large grand prix size indoor and outdoor rings that feature dust free fiber blend and sand footing. SHRA is now home to Grand Prix riders Geoffrey Case, Wendy Subotich and Ashley Woodhouse.
The program at SHRA includes instruction for all levels, from the competitive rider to the weekend rider. Clients have access to the unlimited trails in the Rockefeller Preserve that run along the picturesque landscape of the Hudson River. SHRA will be competing in the nation’s top equestrian competitions along the east coast this coming year.
Geoff Case recently joined SHRA to direct the SHCC equestrian program. Over the years, Case has developed many top riders, and is looking forward to a successful year at SHRA. Case uses the classical teachings of George H. Morris and Bert De Nemethy, and European techniques to help riders achieve their goals.
Case is a graduate of John Hopkins University, and has worked with top trainers Robert Murphy, Debbie Stephens, and Karen Healey. He has also spent time living and competing throughout Europe for Team Audi and Team Lincom. To help the riders at SHRA achieve their highest potential, Case has brought together an experienced staff including Wendy Subotich, Ashley Woodhouse, and Megan Mulrooney.
Wendy Subotich will be assisting Case at Sleepy Hollow Country Club by teaching lessons to the more experienced riders and preparing those riders and their horses for competition. Subotich is a Connecticut native that grew up riding at the prestigious Fairfield County Hunt Club, where she was very successful in the hunter, equitation and jumper arenas. She later traveled to California where she earned a double degree from the University of San Diego. She has worked in Europe at Stal Hendrix, Stephix in Holland and Horst Rumkis in Germany. For the last ten years, she was partnered with Olympiad Peter Breakwell of New Zealand at his successful show barn in California that had over 30 horses in competition. Subotich is a gifted teacher and rider and knows what it takes to produce top riders and horses.
Ashley Woodhouse, one of the assistant trainers at Sleepy Hollow Country Club, will focus on developing young riders. A graduate of Skidmore College, Woodhouse was Captain of the Women’s Equestrian Team and won the prestigious Cacchione Cup. She has competed in Europe and on the Grand Prix level with her horse Pacifico. Woodhouse is passionate about the vision SHRA has and is excited to be a part of its growth.
Managing the stables and overseeing the marketing for SHRA is Megan Mulrooney of Wellington, Florida. She is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College, one of the top ranked women’s colleges in the country and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Mulrooney has ridden for and worked with some of the top ranked show jumping riders and show managers in the world such as Debbie Stephens, Todd Minikus and Jan Tops. She has also been involved in several partnerships through her business, Meg & Company, that involved several young show prospects as well as owning a successful Grand Prix horse. Mulrooney has managed and acquired sponsorship endorsements for various Grand Prix riders and their corporations and worked with clients of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds including Med Vet Pharmaceuticals, Cogent Solutions, Stall Watch Video Surveillance, Purina, CWD and Manna Pro. Most recently she has assisted SHRA partner with CWD, Purina and Eastern Hay.
SHRA’s prime location in West Chester County, New York, allows it to offer the best facility and instruction for its riders. Under the direction of Case and his experienced staff, clients will be able to reach their full potential while competing at the top horse shows in the country. The caliber of riders and trainers at SHRA is unmatched as they enter a new era in SHCC’s history.
