Germany’s Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum announced she will compete her 18-year-old gelding, Shutterfly, at the Rolex FEI World Cup Show Jumping Final in Leipzig, Germany. Michaels-Beerbaum previously entered two other mounts, Checkmate and Kismet, but recently confirmed that Shutterfly will take Kismet’s place.
Shutterfly and Michaels-Beerbaum have been victorious three times in World Cup Finals, winning the 2005 honors in Las Vegas, Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2008 and again in Las Vegas in 2009. If the pair earns another title in Leipzig, then both horse and rider would go down in the record books for being four-time victors of the competition. At the moment, Shutterfly and Baloubet du Rouet, Rodrigo Pessoa’s 1998-2000 winning mount, are the only horses to boast a trio of World Cup titles.
The Final, which will take place April 27-May 1, marks the first time that the jumping, dressage, driving and vaulting events will all occur at the same venue.
