Seven EHV-1 Respiratory Cases Reported In Pennsylvania

Mar 12, 2021 - 8:51 AM

The Equine Disease Communication Center reported on March 11 that seven horses tested positive for the respiratory form of equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) at a show horse boarding facility in Chester County, Pennsylvania. A total of 23 horses were exposed. The barn is in quarantine.

The press release by the EDCC states that “the investigation is ongoing, but due to a possible connection to an [Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy] case NOT located at this premises, the [Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture] is issuing an official quarantine and is working with the very proactive barn management and private practitioners to monitor the health of the horses on the premises.”
