On Thursday at Devon, Kathryn Southard’s As Ever, handled by Dan Short, won the pony hunter breeding. The 2-year-old is by Pengwyn, out of As Always. In the Dixon Oval, equitation ruled the day. Julie Welles and Maria Schaub won sections of the BET/USET Talent Search, while Whitney Weeks and Maggie McAlary won sections of the Washington International Equitation Classic Jumper Phase. Then, Catherine Wright and Sloane Coles won sections of the USEF/Pessoa Medal.
On Friday, the equitation concluded with Addison Phillips, Haylie Jayne and Sloane Coles winning sections of the ASPCA Maclay. Julie Welles and Carolyn Kelly shared the Ronnie Mutch Equitation Championship. Kelly placed third in sections of the Maclay, USET and WIEC Jumper Phase, and second in a section of the Medal. Welles won a section of the USET, took second in a section of the Medal, and third in sections of the Maclay and WIEC Jumper Phase. Addison Phillips won the first junior jumper class on Cantus Anuberth.

The ponies started out with Schaefer Raposa riding Adrienne Sternlicht’s Ingenue to first in the model, and first and second over fences. They traded blues over fences with Reed Kessler and Cardiff Mardi Gras, who also earned blue and red over fences. Jennifer Waxman and Tuscany topped both of the medium pony over fences classes, with Touch Of Silver and Believe In Me in second in each class. Samantha Schaefer and Sham’s Loganberry won the model. In the large ponies, Time To Talk and Lauren Hogan won the model and the first over fences class. Samantha Schaefer rode Who’s Kidding Who to win the second over fences class, while Olivia Esse and Newsworthy were second in both over fences classes.
In the small junior hunters, 15 & under, Jennifer Waxman and The Frog Prince won the over fences, while Alexandra Stathis and Davis Cup topped the under saddle. But Nicoletta von Heidigger’s Breckenridge claimed second in both those classes. The small junior, 16-17 over fences class went to Stephanie Danhakl and Callaway, while last year’s champion Double Cinco won the under saddle. Natalie Johnson and Moulin Rouge took the red ribbon in both those classes. Addison Phillips rode Socrates to the large junior, 15 & under blue over fences, while Kelsey Rae Calabro took the under saddle on Renoir. Carolyn Kelly won the large junior, 16-17 over fences class on Dynamic.
