Nearby volcanic cinder cones afford excellent viewing but sometimes difficult riding. We also hunt a small area, near metropolitan Phoenix, Ariz., of desert arroyos at about 1500 feet elevation.

The Flying M Ranch is 50 by 50 miles with ponderosa pine forests, open grasslands, canyons and plateaus, including Morman Lake on the west, Long Lake to the south, Meteor Crater on the east and I-40 as a north boundry.

The latter, hunted infrequently, was acquired in the merger with the Cedar Knob Foxhounds in 1980. The Hunt was known as the “Hillsboro Cedar Knob Hounds” from 1980 to 1993.

The country is located in central and upper Bucks County along the Delaware River. In central Bucks, where the kennels are located, the townships of Buckingham, Solebury and Warwick are hunted. In upper Bucks, the townships of Durham, Springfield, Tinicum and Nockamixon are hunted. Both are hill and dale countries mainly devoted to farming. Many of the ridges are deeply wooded for miles and rides have been cut through. Valleys are interlaced with streams and water jumps are frequently encountered. Jumps are post and rails and chicken coops in wire fencing. A stout three-quarter bred is preferred.

The country at Keswick has rolling woods and fields with little cultivation, with some steep and trappy country in foothills of the Blue Ridge. Jumps are chicken coops over wire, telephone poles, natural log panels, post and rails and board fences and an occasional stone wall. The southern Rapidan country in Orange County has rolling farmland with fences mainly of chicken coops and post and rails. The Montepelier country has mixed farmland and heavy woods. The Madison County country is rolling farmland, a mixture of pasture and small grain. There is much bottomland along the Rapidan River. The Green Springs District of Louisa County is mainly open pasture and croplands with many swampy areas and trappy creek crossings.

The hunt country is conveniently located near Jacksonville and Fernandina Beach, Fla. as well as Waycross and Brunswick, Ga.
