Roffman And Meredith Are Engaged And Expecting

Grand Prix dressage rider Caroline Roffman took a quick weekend vacation to Beaver Creek, Colo., with her boyfriend, show jumper Ben Meredith, and got quite the surprise when he proposed on Feb. 20.

“We took a sleigh ride up this mountain, and there was a restaurant on top of the mountain. It was really pretty,” she said.

The couple, who met through mutual friends two and a half years ago when they were dating other people, have been together for about a year and half.

The couple, who met through mutual friends two and a half years ago when they were dating other people, have been together for about a year and half.

The couple hasn’t set a date for the wedding yet, as they have a busy year ahead; Roffman is expecting their first child, a girl, in about five weeks.

“I was excited,” she said of the moment she found out. “I’ve always wanted kids. I believe things happen for a reason. I’m an open-minded individual when things happen. I don’t think there’s ever a perfect time. It was exciting—a little scary, but exciting.”

Roffman, 27, runs Lionshare Dressage in Wellington, Fla., and has been keeping busy with sales horses and clients since selling her Grand Prix partner Her Highness O to a Danish rider in 2015.

“I’ve just this week cut back a little bit because my doctor told me the more active I am, the more likely it is that I go [into labor] early,” she said.

Once she’s ready to get back in the saddle, Roffman has two exciting horses waiting in the wings, Abercrombie, owned by Patricia Keenan, and Feng Shui TF, owned by Anne Schmidt.

“I have a 6-year-old [Abercrombie] who’s ready to do the 6-year-olds, but I’m obviously not right now!” she said. “We’ve had him for a few years. I think he’s very promising. Hopefully he can show in the developing horse [Prix St. Georges] next year. [Feng Shui] is kind of in between. She was a broodmare, so she’s a little bit behind in some ways and very talented in others. I think she’ll learn stuff fast.”
