The country is bisected by the James River and ranges from rolling open meadows to steep ravines and spurs of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Many areas are heavily wooded. There are coops, post and rails, logs and some stone walls as jumps in the cultivated areas. Many creeks lace through the territory. On the south side of the James River in Buckingham County west of Route 15 all the way to, in some parts, Appomattox County. This land is mostly rolling hills and woodlands.
