Insulin resistance is a common problem afflicting a high percentage of pleasure horses and is commonly referred to as metabolic syndrome.  These horses are generally overweight, have cresty necks and commonly have laminitis as a secondary problem.  The most common traditional therapies include dry lot confinement, increased exercise and low starch diets.

Our current trials are indicating that this medical condition is associated with chronic inflammation, which may be controlled naturally with an overall improved quality of life and less restrictions for the equine patient.  Dr. Schell is seeking 10-15 additional candidates for his research study evaluating a new natural supplement that is top dressed onto the grain.  If you have an insulin resistant horse which may or may not have secondary laminitis, please contact Dr. Tom Schell via email at tschelldvm@gmail.com for further information and trial qualifications.
