According to Dressage-News.com, Ikle withdrew due to concerns over her horse’s fitness level. Ikle’s mount, Salieri CH, was recovering from an injury and just recently returned to work. In 2008, Ikle withdrew from Olympic Games due to the effects of the Hong Kong heat on her mount.

Pläge reportedly withdrew after making the decision to retire his horse, Regent. The 18-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, owned by Jean Didier, competed at the Grand Prix level for 10 years.
