For more than 135 years the veterinarians at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute have dedicated their lives to improving the health and well being of their equine patients. And now, for the sixth consecutive year, Hagyard joins Horse Shows by the Bay as the Official Show Veterinarian.
Returning for her third Festival is Heather Woodruff, DVM, who will be onsite throughout the circuit. Dr. Woodruff is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and was hired as an associate at Hagyard after completing a Sport Horse Internship there.

An experienced horse show veterinarian, Dr. Woodruff has worked at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky as well as show circuits in California, Florida and Kentucky. She brings extensive lameness, diagnostic and emergency services experiences to her role at HSBB and recently completed the Chi Institute of Veterinary Medicine in Equine Acupuncture.
“I’m pleased to announce that Hagyard is returning by popular demand. It’s a great relief knowing our clients’ horses are so well taken care of by such a leading authority in the equine medical world,” said Alex Rheinheimer, show owner and manager. “We’re very appreciative of their continued support of our festival.”
With more than 50 veterinarians and a well-educated, experienced staff of support personnel all contributing a variety of specialties and interests, Hagyard, based in Lexington, Kentucky, is able to achieve superior results. No other single non-university veterinary group in the equine world is currently able to match its qualifications. The talent of Hagyard’s veterinarians and dedication of its staff provide to client and patients alike a level of care unequaled anywhere in the equine industry, and HSBB is fortunate to have Hagyard as a gold sponsor and partner.
