Callan Solem Show Stables traveled to the Vermont Summer Festival after an exciting week at HITS Saugerties, where Solem captured five blue ribbons and the Champion Tricolor aboard April Showers, owned by Tracey Blumberg, in the First Year Green Hunter division and a fifth place ribbon aboard VDL Torlando, owned by the VDL Torlando Group, in the $50,000 Grand Prix.

In Vermont, junior Rose Borzillo garnered both a championship tricolor and a reserve championship tricolor during the week of competition. First, in the jumper ring, she scored a first place finish in the $1,500 NAL and WIHS Children’s Jumper Classic aboard Flying Dutchman, owned by Virginia McNeil.  With Assistant Trainer Martha Redman coaching, Rose was also awarded the Reserve Championship on Untitled, owned by Enterprise Farm, in the Children’s 14-17 Hunter Horse division.  “These are new horses for Rose,” noted Solem. “I feel she has really gotten to know them and she rode both of them very nicely. It is so good for juniors to ride hunters and jumpers so they can become well rounded. I was really happy for her, I know she has worked hard and it really paid off this week.”

Solem had her own success during the week, winning the $1,000 1.30m Jumper class with her newest mount Bianca Van Het Scheef Kasteel. The pair completed two beautiful clear rounds for the blue ribbon prize. “This is a new horse for us and she just came out of quarantine,” explained Solem. “I was very excited and she is such a great horse. She’s really fun, and she is also very fast, brave, and careful, which is the horse I hoped we had found when I tried her in Europe.”

During last week’s competition Solem also rode Magic Cruise in her first grand prix on the mare, the $30,000 Mount Equinox event. The pair successfully negotiated Conrad Hornfeld’s course to advance to the jump-off, where they eventually placed seventh overall. Solem also earned top ribbons on Bronziet, owned by Pieter Ruig and Paard Hill in the 1.00m Open Jumper classes.

Virginia McNeil won a blue ribbon at the Valley Classic Horse Show aboard Will Stop in the High Adult Amateur Jumpers. “Virginia was great,” said Solem. “She is such a competitive rider and she always tries to win. She did a super inside turn in that class and showcased the great team she and Will Stop make.”

Solem will continue showing this week at the Vermont Summer Festival including competing aboard Magic Cruise in the $30,000 Manchester and the Mountains Grand Prix.
