•    Canadian Karl Slezak rode Frankie Simpson’s mare, Watson’s Shelbreen, to win intermediate, division 2, with a score of 34.9. Slezak also won the dressage with a 26.9, despite limited warm-up time.
“I called at 8 a.m. this morning and asked if there were any scratches and she said, ‘Yeah, can you be in the ring at 9:15?’ ” said Slezak, who was staying half an hour away in Middleburg, Va. “We still had to drive here, so Frankie was in the back braiding. We got here, I figured out which ring I was in, got a few minutes of warm-up and in we went. She was perfect!”
Slezak will next ride the mare at the Fair Hill International CCI**. He also finished seventh in advanced, division 2, on Braveheart.
