Massachusetts Student Suspended For Riding Horse To School

In a de-spiriting twist on a high school spirit day, a senior at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School in Hamilton, Mass., was suspended after he rode a horse to school dressed up as a knight. The school is located about a mile from the Myopia Hunt Club.

Dan DePaolis, 17, decided it would be fun to dress up like a knight and ride his horse to school for spirit week. Within minutes of arriving on the property on the family horse, Pierre, who was walking calmly and being led by another student, both boys were suspended.

When the Boston Globe spoke to Ron DePaolis, the boy’s father, he said his son was told that riding a horse to school is “the equivalent of bringing in a loaded firearm.”

Dan was suspended for two days, and the boy who was leading his horse was suspended for one day and given two hours of community service. Neither student was allowed to attend the school’s Halloween dance.
