Eventer Liz Halliday is expected to be taken of a ventilator today, according to an update posted Monday on social media by her family and friends.
“Today has been a big day for Liz as we received the good news that she will be getting off the ventilator tomorrow,” the Sept. 2 post read. “This will allow her to progress much more rapidly in her recovery.”
Halliday was hospitalized on Thursday, Aug. 29, after falling with Shanroe Cooley late on the cross-country of the $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Final at the USEA American Eventing Championships in Lexington, Kentucky. Halliday was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and underwent surgery to relieve brain swelling that day. Shanroe Cooley was uninjured in the fall.

On Sunday, her family shared that the 45-year-old rider is recovering well.
“She is continuing to make steady improvements and wowing her medical team with her grit and determination,” the update read. “We put a pair of reins in her hands today, and she is gripping them tight to keep the contact. When we pull on the reins, she pulls back. We know she is dreaming about getting back out to gallop cross country again.”
