Livestock Cruelty Bill Fails In Tennessee

On March 30, HB 3386 failed for lack of motion in the state’s agricultural committee, according to TheHorse.com.

The bill proposed making cruelty to horses and other livestock a felony. Current animal cruelty laws only apply to companion animals.

The bill also authorized courts to order those charged to forfeit their animals.

Rep. Janis Sontany introduced the bill in response to a seizure of 84 abused horses in November.

The Tennessee Farm Bureau opposed the bill claiming it would subject farmers to unnecessary regulation.
