Dressage rider Lauren Sammis will be busy during the 2010 Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Dressage Festival of Champions. Not only will Sammis be competing her dressage partner Sagacious HF, an 11-year-old KWPN gelding owned by Al Guden of Hyperion Farm, but Sammis will also be supporting the riders4helmets campaign, started by SUCCEED, by taking part in a Charles Owen Helmet raffle.

Sammis, who schools daily in a Charles Owen helmet, will draw the winning raffle ticket for the Charles Owen helmet raffle. Proceeds from the raffle will go to the USET Foundation. “We are very appreciative to be the beneficiary of the Charles Owen helmet raffle,” said Bonnie Jenkins, the USET Foundation’s Executive Director. “It is a wonderful cause and one we hope everyone in the equestrian community will rally around.”

Sammis, who helped win the 2007 Pan Am Team Gold Medal in Rio, will compete Sagacious HF at Gladstone as part of the World Equestrian Games Selection Trials. “While I am excited to compete at the selection trials, I am equally excited about the Charles Owen Helmet raffle. One lucky winner will take home a Charles Owen helmet, which in turn could save their life,” Sammis said. “I think its important that riders like so many other sports eventually evolve and make helmets a socially acceptable part of their show attire. I am a huge fan of Courtney King-Dye. Courtney’s unfortunate accident just goes to show that accidents can happen to the best of the riders, at any level, in any situation.”

Tickets for the Charles Owen Helmet raffle will be $5 and will be available at Sho Clothes Dressage boutiques mobile store at Gladstone, August 6 – 15, as well as from volunteers throughout the show grounds. “Charles Owen proudly supports riders4helmets and is pleased to bring this support to the USET Foundation at the 2010 Festival of Champions. Charles Owen strives to make a safer helmet that exceeds riders’ expectations in fit, comfort and style — a helmet for all riding occasions,” said Danielle Santos, the Marketing and Public Relations Director for Charles Owen.

Sammis said she is pleased that someone will win a brand new Charles Owen helmet, and that the money raised through the raffle will go toward supporting the USET Foundation. “While securing a spot on the US team at WEG is my goal, I have to add that seeing all riders wear helmets is also something I hope for,” Sammis said. Hyperion Farm owner, Al Guden and Sagacious’ groom, Katie Patton both ride in a Charles Owen helmet every day. “We are committed to safety”, said Guden.

Sammis and Sagacious HF are ranked 5th going into the 2010 Selection Trial for the World Equestrian Games. The pair has consistently proven to be successful in the national and international arena, winning a Team Gold Medal at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio in the Prix St George and the Individual Silver Medal for the US. In 2009, they made the successful transition to the Grand Prix winning 10 out of 12 CDI competitions entered.
