The Rolex Kentucky CCI**** started today, April 26 in Lexington, with the formal horse inspection near the stables.
Approximately 56 horses passed. Kai Ruder’s Edward 16 was held, as was Cathy Wieschhoff’s ride, Ocotillo, but both passed upon re-inspection. Sadly, Penny Rowland’s Roundabout was not accepted by the ground jury of Angela Tucker, Brian Ross and Martin Plewa, upon re-inspection.

Ian Roberts had his hands full with Napalm, who ran sideways as Roberts trotted him back toward the barn, and after passing the judges, he slipped and fell onto his right side on the pavement. He quickly righted himself as it was announced that he had been accepted and seemed none the worse for wear.
Kim Severson had withdrawn last year’s winner, Winsome Adante, a few weeks before the event, and more withdrawals were evident today, including Jan Thompson’s Task Force, Stuart Black’s Fleeceworks Starlight, Kristin Scholmze’s Cavaldi, Peter Gray’s Balladeer Ted, Tiffani Loudon’s Above N Beyond, Imtiaz Anees’ Freetown, and others, but a strong contingent of international arrivals, including William Fox-Pitt, Andrew Hoy, Emily Anker and Kai Ruder ensure that the competition is open to anyone right now.
