Katherine Bateson-Chandler Acquires Experienced WEG Prospect

Jane Clark has purchased Dutch rider Jeannette Haazen’s Grand Prix horse Nartan for rider Katherine Bateson-Chandler. Bateson-Chandler hopes to qualify for the U.S. team for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games this fall.

With Haazen, the 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (by Jazz) was a Dutch A-team listed horse, the 2010 Dutch Indoor Champion and recently won the Grand Prix freestyle at the CDI Hagen. In 2009, the pair finished seventh at the Rolex FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas, Nev.

Haazen told EuroDressage.com that she sold Nartan because she knew she wouldn’t make the Dutch team with him.

Bateson-Chandler, 34, is thrilled with her new ride. She has two young Grand Prix horses—Dea II won the Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Intermediaire I Championship last year—but she didn’t have a confirmed international Grand Prix horse for the selection trials.

She’s stayed in Europe to work with Haazen while she gets to know Nartan better. Bateson-Chandler hopes to compete and qualify for the U.S. Selection Trials while in Europe.

Clark also has WEG aspirations in other disciplines. Mario Deslauriers and Clark’s Urico are short-listed for the U.S. Show Jumping Team.
