The purpose of the grant is to showcase talented horses bred in the United States and ridden by U.S. citizens by providing the funds to train and compete in Europe.

Charlene Summers of Summervale Farm in Roy, Wash., bred H.S. Wistar. The Hungarian Warmblood stallion (Wishes And Dreams—H. Marado) is currently standing at stud and has already produced successful progeny.

Williams and Wistar’s partnership is starting its 10th year. The two won the Great American/USDF Region 6 Championship this fall at Grand Prix.

Williams and Wistar frequently travel to California, where they compete on the CDI circuit and train with Steffen Peters.

The pair will train with Catherine Haddad in Germany during the fall of 2010. Williams plans to compete at the Oldenburg CDI (Germany) and the Odense CDI (Denmark).

“Training and competing in Europe will give Wistar and me experience in how the European show system works, will give us experience with larger crowds and venues and will help acclimate us to the highest level of competition—international competition,” Williams said.
