Area IX (Colo., Idaho, Ont., S.D., Utah, Wyo.) is losing one of its premier events as the organizers of the Event at Jackson Hole (Wyo.) have decided to cancel the 2005 event.
The Spring Creek Equestrian Center was sold to Richard Fields of the Wyoming Land and Cattle Company in 2004. Fields offered to allow the event to run one more time in 2005, but he intends to focus on the Western disciplines there and to change the footing in the rings.
New organizer Allison Monroe grew overwhelmed as the complications mounted. “The challenges of coming up with a new title sponsor, new volunteers, and having to deal with these new changes were too much, so we decided to call it off,” she explained.

But not all the news is bad. “The owner has expressed willingness to work with the community if we can find another location,” said Monroe. “He’s willing to donate the portable jumps. So there is hope that it will run again. Certainly not this year, but hopefully in the years to come.”
Jackson Hole had run novice through advanced divisions and was also part of the U.S. Eventing Association’s Gold Cup series.
